Creating Powerful Connections with Our Clients
Hi readers. This Chari Darneal from BusinessCoach.com. Gary asked me to blog this week about an experience I had with a client. This client has been with me for about 2 years now. I have been providing coaching to several executives and also working with them on transition challenges.
In the course of the last 2 years, I have been thanked by several people for the great work that has been accomplished no different than most other projects. For me, it is a privilege to be acknowledged by my clients in that I do not expect it. In fact, there are times when my acknowledgment comes from the recognized success of a program or person, not specifically directed to me.
Well, just the other day, I received the most profound acknowledgment. My client thanked me for contributing to their success and for being their friend. The key for me is the friendship acknowledgment in that it speaks to the connection that is created between a coach and the client. Particularly in our approach, we emphasize relationship and being related to our clients. This acknowledgment let me know that I fulfilled that commitment.
So, how is such a connection created with a client? For me, I take the time to get to know my clients, who they are, what makes them tick in the context of their whole life, not just their business. I challenge them. I stand for them and their success when they are on top of their game and even when they are ready to throw in the towel. I keep my promises so that they can count on me. I acknowledge them every opportunity I can. I find other unique ways to stay connected, like sending them emails, giving them articles, hand written notes, etc.
What do you do to create a connection? What experiences have you shared with clients? Share with me either by submitting a comment below or sending me an email to chari@businesscoach.com.
Have a wonderful week, Chari Darneal
