Leveraging Relationships with Contact Management Systems

I'm going to say it here so I'll get it off my chest.  As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I've suffered through many a contact management software system.  ACT had to have been one of my worst experiences ever.  And I endured their bug laden software for a long time.  And if you ever tried to get help on an issue, watch the heck out.  Be very careful before you commit to any contact management system.

For me, keeping an organized contact management system is like keeping an organized office and file system.  It adds a level of organization and discipline that I can't do without.  It makes me more efficient, as long as the software does what it's supposed to do.  While nothing is perfect, committing to using a system can make a huge difference in sales and profit.

Regardless of what system you use, stick to the discipline of setting goals for ongoing contact with clients, prospective clients, etc.  Leverage technology to "touch" the contacts in your world with relevant, permission-based information, education and insights.  Hold yourself accountable to using the system every day.  Track your business development activities.  Assign an activity date for each contact.  Establish probabilities for your prospects in the pipeline and enhance forecasting capabilities.  These are just some of the basic functions of a good contact management system.  Tools like Infusionsoft.com can really make a difference if you want to get serious about contact management and effective marketing.
