Being in Business with a Servant's Heart

I love this quote by a very special man. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you. This is an incredibly special time of year with the holidays upon us. It’s a time of year when most of us can take a breather from our jobs and businesses and channel our love and energy toward our family and friends. It’s a time when we can look back on the accomplishments of the year and ponder the possibilities of the plans we’ve made for the year ahead.

If we can ignore for a while the blatant commercial excesses of the season, we free ourselves to focus on what I believe to be most important of all. I refer to it as “living with a servant’s heart.” I’d love to give credit to the person who coined this phrase. Unfortunately, I’m not sure who came up with it. But the phrase has stuck with me since the day I heard it many years ago.

I believe all great leaders live and act each day with a servant’s heart. A burning desire to give. A passion to make a difference. This outward focus on making an impact by giving of oneself is so significant. The more we approach life with the desire to give the more we get back over time. In business and in life. Great leaders and people don’t think in terms of what they will get back. They think in constant terms about how they can help other people.

This is a time of year to give. This is a time of year to “be doing a little something extra for someone.” Maybe it’s someone you know. Maybe it’s a random act of kindness. Reflect with me on how much we have to be grateful for, living in a world of abundance if we so choose. Be in business with a servant’s heart. Be in life the same way. Choose to make a difference. Share. Love. Be thankful at home. Be thankful at work.

As always, warm regards.
