Annoying Boss Habit Number Five
Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas in the 1987 movie Wall Street makes his pitch to the Teldar Paper Stockholders. "I am not a destroyer of companies, I am a liberator of them! The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that of other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much."
Now that's a strong will and one prone to coming across as a power and control freak. Most of us deal with more subtle forms of the need for power and greed. And even in it's most subdued sense, this annoying habit can ruin a team, a division and an entire company.
